History of Denim & Black White Jeans
The denim fabric was classified as a twill weave fabric using one coloured thread and one white one. Many historians believe that was born in Nîmes/France.
Gênes, the French word for Genoa, may be the origin of the word “jeans”. The word “denim” comes from a twill fabric called “Serge de Nîmes”, first woven in Nîmes, France.
Levi Strauss and his brother were German immigrants, they moved to San Francisco from New York in 1853.
They met with Mr Jacob W. Davis who was having denim fabric from their company. Levi’s fabric was so integral for using metal rivets on denim workwear. They became partners and received patent from the U.S Patent and Trademark Office.
